Questions and answers about the survey
Why is the AWS conducting a survey on urban cleanliness?
When is clean enough and therefore safe enough? How do Stuttgart residents feel about their city? How satisfied are they? Are they even aware of all the services provided by AWS? What do the visitors think? A broad-based survey is intended to provide information about this and identify where there may be a need for more action. For the AWS and other departments of the city of Stuttgart. For politics. For the city society and its guests. As a municipal service provider and experts in urban cleanliness, we adapt our services for the people of Stuttgart to their needs and expectations: To do this, it is important that we know and can classify the expectations of the people of Stuttgart and all interested parties.
Who is carrying out the study?
The AWS has commissioned the opinion research institute LQM from Mainz to conduct the multi-stage representative study. Among other things, the institute specialises in questions from municipalities and districts regarding cleanliness, waste disposal and recycling management.
How was the survey conducted?
The practical part of the survey ran until July 14th 2023 and was based on three pillars. The representative part comprised 1,000 telephone conducted interviews. Also, 100 random pedestrians were interviewed at five locations. In addition, all interested parties had the opportunity to give their opinion online. The online tool was available in German and – a special feature in this sector – in English.
Where did the pedestrian surveys take place?
We conducted the pedestrian surveys for you at five locations:
in the area between Wilhelmsplatz, Leonhardskirche and Rosenstrasse
in the area of Epplestraße, Albplatz, Degerloch bus station
in the area Filderbahnstraße, Filderbahnplatz
in the area of the bus station, Emilienstraße/Stadtpark, Vaihinger Markt
in the area around the Wilhelmsplatz bus stop (Bad Cannstatt) with connecting routes to the railway station, Marktstraße and the Carré Bad Cannstatt.
Who could take part in the survey?
All Stuttgart residents and all interested people over the age of 18 were cordially invited to take part in the satisfaction survey online here on this page. 1,000 telephone interviews were conducted. Also, 100 random pedestrians were interviewed at five locations.
When will the results be available?
We will present the results of the survey on World Cleanup Day 2023, September 16, 2023.
Do the results also show how Stuttgart compares to other cities?
Yes. The opinion research institute LQM from Mainz, which conducts the study, specializes among other things in questions from municipalities and districts regarding cleanliness, waste disposal and recycling management. Via the database of the market research institute, it will be possible to put the results of the AWS survey into a municipal comparison.
Does the AWS now regularly conduct such a survey?
In the future, the AWS would like to repeat the satisfaction survey on cleanliness in Stuttgart regularly every three years.
What happens next?
We first evaluate the data from the survey. These then flow into a municipal benchmark as the results of the study. They are intended to show how satisfied people are and where there may be a need for action. For the AWS and other departments of the city of Stuttgart. For politics. For the city society and its guests. We can then derive concrete measures from the identified need for action.
